Il NEC di Birmingham ha ospitato una mostra auto d’epoca davvero importante, specializzata anche nel restauro e svoltasi dal 5 al 6 marzo. Circa 120 i club automobilistici presenti, offrendo dimostrazioni e lavori su progetti di restauro di fronte a più di 20.000 visitatori durante il fine settimana. Restauratori specializzati ed esperti del settore sono stati anche a portata di mano per dare consigli, presentando 700 auto in vari stati di degrado, anche se va detto che alcune erano in condizioni da concorso.
La Ford Capri del 1969 color oro.
Tra le celebrità di automobilismo presenti le star del programma televisivo Affari a quattro ruote Mike Brewer e Edd China e molti altri. Il trofeo Lancaster Assicurazione Pride of Ownership è stato vinto da un Ford Capri del 1969 color oro (nella foto a sinistra, un modello che di recente ha avuto una interessante rivalutazione) con un’altra Ford, una Cortina del 1966, al secondo posto. Anche se forse era un po’ prevedibile, i visitatori hanno votato una Aston Martin DB2 del 1953 come “auto trovata nel granaio” preferita dello show.
NEC Restoration and Classic Car Show
Classic car shows don’t get more ‘live’ than the Restoration and Classic Car Show in the UK (NEC, 5/6 March).
Some 120 motoring clubs had stands there, offering demonstrations and working on restoration projects there and then, in front of more than 20,000 visitors over the weekend.
Specialist restorers and industry experts were also at hand to give advice, among 700 cars in various states of disrepair – though some were in concours condition.

UK motoring celebrities performing on the Live Stage included TV programme Wheeler Dealers Mike Brewer and Edd China, For the Love of Cars Ant Anstead, and the original Stig (Perry McCarthy). The Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership trophy was won by a gold-coloured 1969 Ford Capri (the model is definitely enjoying somewhat of a renaissance), with a 1966 Cortina taking second place.
Perhaps a little predictably, visitors voted a 1953 Aston Martin DB2 saloon as the show’s favourite barn-find.
